Bachelor Mechatronic Systems Engineering (part-time)

Degree programme content and objectives

The part-time BEng degree programme in Mechatronic Systems Engineering provides you with an unique opportunity to enrol in a course at a university of applied sciences without the need for a university-entrance diploma (e.g. ‘Abitur’), and so gain an academic qualification to accompany your existing vocational qualifications.

You will follow a well-grounded, interdisciplinary technical course concentrating on the core areas of mechanical engineering, mechatronics and automation but which also covers other relevant topics. Course content ranges from the design to the realisation of systems for modern products or production plants. You will learn to design, commission and manage your own complex systems, and acquire the expert knowledge needed to be able to skilfully plan, assess and realise those systems in the following disciplines:

• Mechanical and mechatronic systems engineering
• Electrical engineering
• Production and manufacturing processes
• Automation
• Controlling and costing

Entry requirements

There are different routes by which prospective students can enter the part-time BEng in Mechatronic Systems Engineering:

• You have completed your vocational engineering training and have progressed to qualify as a ‘Meister’, ‘Techniker’ or ‘Techniker dual’, or

• You have completed your vocational engineering training and have either a minimum of three years of relevant working experience or one year’s working experience with vocational college or have completed a preparatory course with an aptitude test, or

• You are qualified for entrance to a German university of applied sciences and have also completed the first year of a relevant vocational training course.

Degree programme structure and duration

This is a part-time, practice-oriented course designed to be taken over a period of nine semesters, although time already spent gaining qualifications (e.g. German ‘Meister’, ‘Techniker’) may be credited. You may also be credited with attainments in courses at other universities of applied sciences which you have not completed. Project reports and practicals which you carry out on site in your company are an important part of your degree programme. Course lectures at OTH Regensburg are held in blocks, either after work or at weekends. At the end of each module is an assessment such as a written examination, oral presentation, course assignment or project report. Successful completion of the degree programme confers a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree.
