Nach der erfolgreichen Absolvierung des Teilmoduls sind die Studierenden in der Lage,

sich besser in Alltag und Studium in Deutschland zu orientieren (3), denn der Kurs zielt auf folgende Kernkompetenzen ab:

  • Stärkung der mündlichen Kommunikation (Sprachkompetenz) (3)
  • Festigung des Hör- und Leseverstehens (3)
  • Anwendung der deutschen Kulturstandards (Thomas) (3)

Inhalte:

The five main topics to be covered (in combination with the five main IC principles) are:

  • Maps of Germany in combination with the definition of culture.
  • German history from the reformation to the reunification (1980s-90s), discussed from a cultural perspective.
  • Education and social systems as a reflection of a number of German cultural values.
  • An outline of the economic and industrial structure of Germany with a focus on Germany's most important sectors. EIL in business communication in Germany will also be looked at here.
  • Immigration and integration including the intercultural aspects of cultural adjustment.

  • Training for job interviews

Based on analysis, discussions and interactive exercises, this seminar raises students’ awareness of how culture is constructed and experienced and gives insight into other cultural values and perspectives.

  • The role of media in reinforcing stereotypes
  • Models of intercultural classification (Hofstede, Hall)
  • Model of psychoanalysis for profiling (Riemann)
  • Aspects of intercultural communication
  • Development of intercultural awareness
  • Role plays and discussion

  • independently expand their competencies on the acquired bases (through observation, attribution and analysis) (3)

Kommentar: 

  • The course is a part of the Foreign Language Certificate English as well as the "Soft Skills" certificate and can be credited twice. The course is also open for the ZGK.

This course is aiming to provide a systematic introduction to research methodology, including:

  • what science and scientific research are aiming at,
  • the general structure of the research process,
  • how to search and review scientific literature,
  • how to formulate a research problem,
  • how to identify variables and hypotheses,
  • what a research design is,
  • how to select a study design,
  • what kinds of data collection methods exist,
  • which kinds of scales for data exist,
  • how a sample is selected.

Inhalte:

This course examines the historical and contemporary role of science and technology in German industry and society.

The course contents include:

  • History of science and technology in Germany
  • Influence of science on German culture and identity
  • Investigation of selected industries (e.g. automotive) and their economic role
  • Importance of German technology and engineering in global markets

The coursework is based on seminar-style discussions and group work. Course participants will
also be able to visit the facilities of German engineering and tech companies in the Regensburg
area for a first-hand look at the German industry (exact dates will be released in class).
